This is my first attempt at podcast and video content. The quality is crappy, the video is subpar, and I’m over-expressing. I promise things will get incrementally better as I publish more episodes.
Hello friends.
Welcome to this podcast, which explores how to live our best life. It’s a unique take on how to approach life from two seemingly oposing perpectives. We’ll combine a secular rationalist approach with one grounded and guided by faith, religion, and philosophy. We’ll talk about the interplace between the spiritual realm and science, culture, and politics.
On the one hand, faith and religion mature because of a greater understanding of our cosmos through science. On the other hand, religion and philosophy ground our culture and politics in a shared set of values and understanding of the world.
I was an avowed atheist, and I found my way back to G-d when I saw the necessity for both the rational and the spiritual. I think I understand both of these realms, and I deeply respect the secular rationalist as I also respect the person of conviction and faith.
So I’m hoping that both the atheist and the religious listener will find our discussions challenging but enjoyable.
We’ll constantly explore that tension between the rational and the spiritual with the utmost respect, love, and charity.
We’ll try to take the emotions out of it, and we’ll challenge ourselves by having a deep and profound understanding of points with which we disagree.
Even though I found G-d, I still have deep admiration for folks like Dawkins and Harris
We’ll explore their ideas as a steelman argument against our faith. We’ll challenge our faith to strengthen it. For the secularists, I hope we can show a deeper understanding of the faithful. So we’ll explore great religious thinkers and what we can learn from them.
I think the tension between secular rationality and the spiritual realm is beautiful and filled with great insights.
And finally, I should say that while we’re going to be talking about some very abstract ideas, we’ll always bring it back to how it affects our lives, our careers, and our relationships.
At the end of the day, our goal for us to take the most out of the dichotomy of reason and faith and, from it, to parse out some practical guidance.
Join me on our quest to unravel some of life’s mysteries.
